Women in Film
The under-representation of women in leadership positions in the Australian screen industry remains a significant and ongoing challenge that requires collective action.
However, there are several organisations that work tirelessly to promote new opportunities for female practitioners, increase the visibility of female-created content, and increase the representation of women in leadership roles throughout the sector. Here are some valuable resources to explore:
Dame Changer is a collective of Australian female identifying screen professionals, offering events, networking opportunities, scholarships, and intensive workshops led by industry experts.
Screen Vixens is an Australia-wide collective of female-identifying, non-binary and intersex producers that provides various resources and events, including Crew Dames (a database of female crew).
Film Fatales supports, profiles and advocates for female film and television directors.
Women in Film & Television (WIFT) Australia is a not-for-profit working to achieve gender equality in the Australian screen industry. WIFT profiles female talent, hosts networking and educational events and has local state-based chapters (each offering their own local networking events).
